“Where are you from?”

On The Tennessee Qawwali Tour, global artist Mo Sabri answers that question by taking audiences on his musical journey of being a first-generation American. Before he received national acclaim due to millions of music streams and accolades such as Vogue’s “Best Dressed” at The Grammy Awards and having a prayer breakfast with the President of the United States, Mo Sabri grew up in East Tennessee as the son of Pakistani immigrants.

While producing original country songs in Music City, Sabri started modernizing centuries-old South Asian qawwali songs last performed by the late Sabri Brothers. This endeavor became the subject of an upcoming documentary film culminating in The Tennessee Qawwali Tour.

Mo Sabri's new folk fusion concert tour consists of South Asian qawwali and Tennessean country performed like a Nashville songwriter round — a juxtaposition that represents both authentic sides of his first generation identity. The Tennessee Qawwali Tour is a rare cultural event with world-class musicians and a fresh perspective on what it means to be American.

I’m from the birthplace of country music and I also inherit another folk music tradition: qawwali. When the music industry shut down in 2020, I started writing both for the first time.
